Our Story

The Youth In General was born from an answered prayer in a season of deep uncertainty. When faced with loss and adversity, our founders, a husband and wife grounded in faith, chose to trust in God’s promise of provision and purpose.

“And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of His glory in Christ Jesus.” — Philippians 4:19

Through prayer and perseverance, they found renewal in surrender. Their simple response became a calling: “Use us.”

“Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?’
And I said, ‘Here am I. Send me!’” — Isaiah 6:8

From that moment, a vision began to take shape, not just to provide, but to empower.

The first step in building that vision was seeking wise counsel. One of the founders found deep inspiration in the life and legacy of his grandfather, a man who had dedicated nearly a decade of service in Africa through the Peace Corps. Moved by the needs he witnessed there, he later established a nonprofit called A Hand Up, Not A Handout, which focused on supporting small and often overlooked communities. His organization helped bring essential resources such as clean water, electricity, and educational opportunities to families in remote villages.

This example of humble, hands-on service left a lasting imprint. It showed that meaningful impact doesn’t begin with vast resources but with a willing heart and steadfast faith. His life became a living reminder that one person, rooted in compassion and obedience to God’s call, can inspire generations to follow the same path of service.

After months of prayer and reflection, three causes close to the founders’ hearts emerged clearly.

Special Needs Youth: Inspired by a lifelong dedication to education and advocacy, The Youth In General seeks to champion those whose unique abilities often go unseen. We aim to support families and educators by bringing resources, awareness, and hope to children who deserve every opportunity to thrive.

At-Risk Youth: Through years of experience in education, our founders witnessed firsthand the transformative power of opportunity through after-school programs, mentorship, and community support. We strive to create pathways for young people to discover purpose and potential beyond their circumstances.

Family Impact: Personal experience with illness and loss taught our founders the quiet strength required when a loved one battles disease or is lost. Our mission includes standing beside children and families in those moments, offering support that reminds them they are never alone.

From a small act of obedience to God’s calling, The Youth In General has grown into a community of passionate hearts, each bringing their own story, skills, and faith to the mission. We believe that every life has purpose, every challenge can be redeemed, and every act of service can plant a seed of hope.

Today, we invite you to walk with us. Whether you pray, volunteer, give, or simply share our story, you become part of a growing family committed to reflecting God’s love through action. Together, we continue to learn, grow, and serve, believing that the best chapters of The Youth In General are still being written.
